Strictly 2022: Week 6 Halloween

The Strictly Dancefloor is plunged into all manner of horror and terror! No Bruno isn’t returned…it’s Halloween Week

Tess arrived in from the gardening with her glittery wellies in time to introduce the joodges who looked fantastic. Craig dragging up as Morticia Addams. This is why we pay our licence fee.

Given that The Recs isn’t the biggest fan of Strictly‘s theme weeks, it seems churlish for us to point out that more than a couple of song choices do not exactly fit the brief of “Halloween Week”. But as no-one has the execrable Monster Mash this year so we’ll zip it!

Tony and Katya: Quickstep to The Devil Went Down To Georgia. Katya selling her soul to get a respectable quickstep. Definitely their best dance yet. We’ve said it before and we’ll say it again: Katya is a genius! Love that Tony is not the comedy contestant.

Will and Nancy: Cha Cha Cha to  Mama Told Me Not To Come. Or is that Mummy Told Me Not To Come. He really has lovely hands – put a lot of effort into dancing past the characterisation of the dance. Terrible distracting lighting. Perhaps the biggest shocker of the night – Motsi giving technical critiques!! Since when!?!

Kym and Graziano: We have so been looking forward to the Rumba to Madonna’s Frozen. A Shakespears Sister’s chill to that dance. She looks amazing and this first time she didn’t appear to be marking it.

TessBot on Shirley: “She’s very method tonight”. Hilarious!

“Everything I do on telly is about being subtle” says Kym having never watched herself on Coronation Street.

James and Amy: Charleston to Bumble Bee. So very Halloween….really? No ghost of Letitia Dean. Disappointed. For a Charleston, that really lacked wow. How can a Charleston on Halloween be so beige? Not feeling a buzz about it.

Molly and Carlos: Argentine Tango to Running Up That Hill (A Deal With God). You can’t get that song and f*ck it up. And they didn’t. A special arrangement of the song (ignoring the vocalist as much as possible) says the powers that be have decreed that she should be kept. Anton and Morticia didn’t get the memo.

Tyler and Dianne: Cha Cha Cha to Day-O (The Banana Boat Song). Can you imagine them getting the Cha Cha Cha not on Halloween ? Horrible costumes getting in the way of enjoying it. Thought he did well but was that a Cha Cha? Does anyone care? Clearly not Anton.

Helen and Gorka: Foxtrotting to the fabulous Lil’ Red Riding Hood. Really love Helen’s dancing and Gorka camping it up. “I know” times five from Motsi. Alrite Motsbaby. Slightly worried that erred on the technical side rather than the vote-winning side.

Hamza and Jowita: Tangoing to Wicked Game by Chris Isaak was always going to be difficult (aka a wrong song for a tango even with the beats). Because he’s not a performer, dances that need performance are always going to fall short. Not great but enough love in the room to keep him in the (wicked) game.

Fleur and Vito: Salsa to Break My Soul by Beyoncé. Well disagreement in The Recs HQ – one side power, impact but other side, yes pop dancing, but messy, all flash but the salsa sort of got lost. She is such a capable dancer but these routines somehow don’t quite land.

Ellie S and Nikita: Foxtrot to Scooby Doo, Where Are You? OMG why weren’t they Scoobie and Scrappy? It felt rather slow for a foxtrot. Not the best week. Not entirely loving the merkin on Nikita’s chin.

Ellie T and Johannes: Couple’s Choice to I Put A Spell On You saw Johannes and Ellie channelling Hocus Pocus but the spell didn’t quite reach us. Johannes choosing to outdance Ellie does not a vote make.

Who Will Leave The Competition?

So okay we’re going to hold our hands up and admit that The Recs has still to predict anyone in the bottom two… but as the numbers of contestants drop, then maybe our predication might finally hit… (or not)

So our guess is Will (poor cossie and routine) and James (bland in dancing form, nowt to hate, but nowt to enjoy either)
