Strictly 2022: Week 2 Results show

Strictly Week 2 Results and it’s a sad goodbye to the first celebrity to leave the dancefloor.

It’s always hard to watch. Some may say sad, others might even describe it as frightening. You could feel the tension in the studio. The big question on everyone’s lips was hanging in the air from the off… Would Robbie Williams be singing live? Oh yeh, and which celeb would be waltzing off the Strictly dancefloor? That too.

You’ve got to hand it to Strictly. It’s now in its twentieth series and the professional group numbers can still zing. A fantastic fashiontastic frolic complete with chairography and a whiff of leather. What more could you ask for?

The first Dum-dum-dums (in no particular order) of Doom revealed Hamza seeming genuinely emotional, and Kaye looking dejected to be in the bottom two.

We are looking forward to Kym bringing her “acting skills” next week. Isn’t that just giving Steve MacDonald a row with her arms folded?

The first musical guest of this series is Robbie Williams. Singing She’s The One, dancers Lauren Oakley and Neil Jones brought some manic high-speed grabbing to distract from the Robster’s tentative high notes.

The secondary Dum-dum-dums of doom saw shock from Jayde, nervousness from Martin Fowler James, bizarre mouth twitches from Will and a shock dodge from Tony with tanned mannequin Matt Goss from Bros in the bottom two! Whither the Brosettes on a Saturday night?

Not exactly the best pep talk from Motsi: “be consistent”. His dancing consistently got him low marks.

However Kaye, frustratingly going wrong and letting the whole routine fall apart, gave the judges an easy decision – much to the heart-holding relief of Matt. Shirley saying that she would have saved Kaye is a bit of a slap in the face to Matt Goss from Bros.

Why Did Kaye Go?

It’s always tough to be the first celeb to leave Strictly each year. And there is a bit of a trend of Loose Women being Loser Women as far as Strictly goes. Gloria Hunniford only made it to Week 3, Katie Piper and the late Lynda Bellingham lasted to Week 4.

When it was revealed that Kaye Adams was taking part in this year’s Strictly, her fellow Loose Women were shocked, saying that normal staid and sensible journalist Kaye would be the last LW regular to do Strictly. Kaye had declared herself not to be a dancer and to be completely out of her comfort zone.

Her first dance last week with Kai Widdrington – a stiff Tango to ABBA’s Voulez-Vous seemed to bear this out. However, this week’s Charleston showed a fantastic improvement and even some growing confidence.

The judge’s placed her third bottom of the leaderboard – with only Matt Goss, who appeared to be only on nodding acquaintance with his routine, and Tony Adams below her.

While Kaye on dance ability this didn’t deserve to be in the bottom two, relative newcomer professional failed to observe a Strictly Golden Rule at this stage in the competition. With such a crowded field and with so many routines for the public to choose between, it is better to be remembered than good.

Doing whatever to keep your routine in the public’s mind is essential – whether it is throwing in the kitchen sink or deploying attention-diverting dustbin lids (this isn’t this first rodeo for Katya).  There simply weren’t enough gimmicks – perfect in a Charleston – to keep Kaye and Kai’s routine to the forefront of the voters’ minds.

So it’s a fond farewell to Kaye and Kai – who kept it classy throughout! (And Nadia Sawalha who seemed to have bought herself a season ticket for sitting in the audience.)
