As Strictly reaches Week 7 and we are halfway through, the competition is heating up and no-one is safe!
Well the mid-season show treated us with TessBot in skinned Big Bird Yellow, Claude in Magic Pyjamas and never to early to be dressed as a glittery Yeti from Shirley!
Hamza & Jowita Cha Cha Cha to I Can’t Help Myself (Sugar Pie, Honey Bunch) – Hamza is so light on his feet but that was more proficient that wowsome. But hugely popular and likable.
Alison Hammond came in like a wrecking ball (thank you Miley) and had us googling “Has Alison Hammond done Strictly?” Answer: yes, she has, with Aljaz. How soon we forget!
Ellie & Johannes Rumba to Alone by Heart – lacked swing and sway, but had too much start and stop. Needed better more detail in the transitions. Also in the Death Slot (aka second up) – with a rumba. Either a rumba works or it doesn’t. Eek – get ready E and J for the dance off. 3 from Craig..a tad too harsh!
Ellie & Nikita (moths have been at his rehearsal top) Charleston to Too Darn Hot – back in the game, threw everything at the Charleston. Nikita is so smart to parallel the movements providing perspective rather than side by side. But a lovely Charleston and pashing on Nikita. Can see them in the final…yes THE FINAL, there we said it!
Molly & Carlos Foxtrot to You Make Me Happy – Preceded by an actual funny joke by the TessBot (I know!!!), that seemed a sweet foxtrot akin to being smothered in a blancmange. But what can you do with that saccharine song?
Tyler & Dianne Viennese Waltz to I’ve Been Loving You Too Long – Dianne announcing it was the halfway point in the competition – WHAT!! SHOCKER!! – Tyler has beautiful hands but his frame tipping over with a bum sticking out made it messy. But at least they’ve got a VW out of the way. Sweating like Giovanni on his first season.
Kym & Graziano Argentine Tango to Assassin’s Tango – Screaming TEN! The best dance of the series. Light and shade, call and response, everything that this series needed! Did we say TEN!!! Judges… hmmm!
Will & Nancy Quickstep to Soda Pop – that was very much a Charlestony Quickstep – it’s hard to say what’s missing – a quickstep should barely touch the floor, a souffle of a dance but that didn’t quite ‘float’ for us
Helen & Gorka Jive to Tightrope by Janelle Monáe – fantastic dancing sabotaged by a terrible screeching from the Day Varch singers and awful lighting and costume combo – her talent was slightly scuppered by the Strictly production.
Fleur & Vito Waltz to I Guess That’s Why They Call It The Blues by Elton John – Fleur can really dance but she still needs to bring a hard and soft, a light and shade to her dancing – the hardest to judge but there are infinitely much worse dancers in the competition.
Tony & Katya Salsa to I Know You Want Me (Calle Ocho) – celebrating something something football. Sorry we zoned out. Well…. as much he doesn’t dance every step, my goodness that was more thrilling than a lot of dances tonight. Katya is utterly fearless. If this isn’t what’s Strictly is about, we don’t know!
Bottom Two Prediction
Giddy on us guessing one of the Bottom Two last week (for the first time), we boldly predict… Molly and Ellie T!
