Strictly Contestant: Richie Anderson

Strictly Come Dancing has unveiled Richie Anderson as 2022’s third contestant. Can we predict how Richie will do?

For some, Strictly‘s third contestant could also be the first “Who?” competitor but The Recs is undaunted as we try and rate Richie Anderson‘s chances.

Known For:

Richie presents the morning travel reports on BBC Radio 2 so you may recognise his voice more than the face.

He’s a former Sunday League footballer who played for Coombs Wood F.C. – who came out as gay to his teammates on camera as part of a report for The One Show.

Previous dancing experience?

Limited evidence but The Recs has unearthed this footage of Richie moving’ while reading a travel report. It’s not being cruel to suggest that perhaps he’s not a natural mover!

The Recs Rating🕺🕺

Richie’s prospects are rather mixed. Tall male Strictly contestants often stand out as being particularly awkward in the early shows and face an early boot: James Cracknell, Iwan Thomas and Anthony Agogo were all tall poppies cut down early. On the other hand, a winning try-hard attitude saw gangly Jeremy Vine progress to Week 8.

Richie has confirmed that he will be dancing in a same sex partnership. That could help give him a bit of a boost as it did with Nicola Adams who resembled an ironing board with a rictus grin.

Given Richie’s height, Graziano and Johannes seem the obvious candidates. As Johannes had a high profile dancing partnership with John Whaite last year, it feels more likely Richie will be paired with Graziano. The likeable Italian has not made it past Week 6 so far but could this pairing be the one?

Narrator: it wasn’t.
