Strictly 2022: Week 10

Strictly is back for another week of Latin and ballroom and since it’s now Week 10, the competition is getting fiercer!

And so, we leave Blackpool behind. The Tower Ballroom can save its legendary bounce until next year. And the donkeys can walk the sands unmolested by Strictly film crews.

Now that we’ve reached Week 10, it can mean only one thing: the Judges are going to get mean as they separate the sparking sheep from the galumphing goats.

Sadly due to Covid, Kym has to miss this week of the competition. Let’s hope she’ll be well and can return next week.

Quick question: has Claude’s skirt shrunk in the wash?

First up to the Elstree dancefloor is….

Will and Nancy
Dancing a Charleston to Hush. Wondering if Wardrobe have been to Abba Voyage recently? Very energetic but a lot out of hold for a Charleston. Sort of felt like a Couple’s Choice but a decent performance.

Molly & Carlos
Tango to Bad Guy. If you are thinking doesn’t a tango to Bad Guy seem vaguely familiar, you wouldn’t be wrong. Oti and Kelvin danced it just three years ago, scoring 9s across the board. Seems a bit soon for it to be recycled…but anyhoo…. that dance seemed to improve as it went along. Rather interesting, stylish and powerful, though the lighting and production distracted from the dance.

Ellie T & Johannes
Jive to Brown Eyed Girl. Our first thoughts were that this song was too slow for a Jive…and we weren’t wrong. Dressed for a gay hoe-down, it felt a very soft jive. The song really hampered any sharpness. “Let’s learn!” insisted Shirley, sadly without bringing back the creepy, tiny shoes of demonstration.

Fleur & Vito
Rumba to Too Lost In You. Sorry we may be some time rewatching Vito’s rumba demonstration footage. Well that had moments of intensity but was a little bit self-conscious. Or a little too try hard to nail the technique. Vito dancing a rumba is quite the thing.

Hamza & Jowita
Argentine Tango to Libertango. Not to labour the point but Hamza gets the best song AGAIN! Dark costume for Hamza, bright one for Jowita. She had all the focus and did the vast majority of the work. And bravo to Anton and Craig for noting how much a camouflage job it was. But Jowita was incredible.

Helen & Gorka
Samba to Eso Beso. Started so well with strong, fun characterisation, then something went slightly amiss in her solo section and it all dissolved by the end. Not Helen’s best. Shirley critiquing Gorka’s “little toosh” – is that appropriate?

Bottom Two Predictions

After our spot-on predictions last week, is The Rec’s crystal ball still working on full throttle? Yet again a middle of the board tie between Molly and Fleur creating shock-drop potential… We choose Molly and Helen in the Bottom Two
