Preview: Out of the Deep Blue

Out of the Deep Blue comes a 13ft tall Sea Giant to provide perfect family-friendly entertainment

With the cost-of-living crisis deepening, it becomes increasingly challenging to find ways to keep the kids entertained. Thankfully the innovative touring dance company, Autin Dance Theatre, has a perfect solution for you.

Out of the Deep Blue is a wonderful piece of outdoor physical theatre for families featuring a contemporary dancer and a 13-foot-tall puppet, operated by five talented puppeteers.

Eko is the Sea Giant who has emerged from the waves and is on a mission: he has a message to impart to those on shore. Violet is a curious young girl who optimistically sees the possibilities of everything.  Inspired by the theme of environmental crisis, Eko and Violet’s mesmerising adventure explores the rather timely-topic of sea pollution and the wider climate crisis in a way that will engage the attention of children aged five and above. Their larger-than-life ‘pas-de-deux’ celebrates the healing power of empathy & courage, and provides a hopeful and inspiring message to take away from the performance.

Out of the Deep Blue is presented in two 25-minute parts: a promenade of the giant puppet interacting with its environment and the audience followed by a dance theatre duet telling Eko and Violet‘s story.

With puppet design by Mr Cleaver’s Monsters, Eko is a dramatic, eye-catching character who will fire up the imagination and whose artistry is every bit as compelling as Joey in War Horse or Richard Parker in Life of Pi.

To return to our original point about the financial pressures on families these days, incredibly all the upcoming Out of the Deep Blue performances are free of charge.
