Melanie C to appear in Dance Show at Sadler's Wells

Perhaps the most eye-catching element of Sadler’s Wells’ announcement of their forthcoming Spring season is how did we get here? – a collaboration between renowned dancer and choreographer Jules Cunningham, award-winning dancer Harry Alexander and Spice Girl Melanie C.

Melanie Chisholm, herself a classically-trained dancer, declared “it’s a dream come true for me to perform at Sadler’s Wells and even more so on an adventurous and groundbreaking project like this”.

Jules Cunningham revealed that fellow Liverpudlian Mel C, had been a source of fascination and also inspiration for them: “As a young dancer from the north west, witnessing the Spice Girls explosion when I was 16 was pivotal. Particularly in Melanie C, I saw possibilities and ways of being myself that were outside of what was expected”.

How did we get here? promises to be an intimate experience, with performances in the round, including some seating on the stage. According to Cunningham, the commission revolves around the three performers’ “shared dance histories and differences to explore what this moment of being together is”.

Having been a successful pop star, musical theatre star and author, we are looking forward to seeing the multi-talented Melanie C add dancer to her bow. Here’s a taster to what we might expect from how did we get here?
