Giant to transfer to Broadway for a limited season

For a script that was written on spec in his kitchen, Mark Rosenblatt’s debut play has been met with dizzying success. Premiering at the Royal Court Theatre, such was the reaction that the subsequent West End transfer was inevitable. Now, the show’s producers have announced that the multi-Olivier Award-winning play Giant will transfer to Broadway, straight from its sold-out London runs.

Dramatising the period of Roald Dahl’s career in 1983 when the writer came under fire for a highly controversial literary review, that many deemed antisemitic, which he wrote about a picture book on the siege of West Beirut by the Israeli army during the 1982 Lebanon War. Pitched as the scandal which rocked his legacy, with topics such as a children’s author being seen in a new unflattering light, hate speech, antisemitism and so-called “cancel culture” to the fore in public consciousness, Giant could not be more timely.

Tony and Golden Globe winner John Lithgow will reprise his Olivier Award-winning role as Roald Dahl. It’s a performance that conveys the charisma and complexity of the writer in a taut, nuanced script that neither demonises nor excuses this complicated character. American audiences will be able to enjoy the moral complexities of Giant, which will begin Broadway performances on Wednesday, March 11, 2026, at a Shubert theater still to be announced for a strictly limited 16-week engagement. Tickets for the Broadway run will go on sale to the public in October 2025.
