Agatha Christie never goes out of fashion. As the best-selling fiction writer of all time, she rightly has earned the title the ‘Queen of Crime’. While her other play The Mousetrap (also a part of London Theatre Week) may hold the record as the longest-running West End show, The Recs are prepared to go out on a limb and insist that Witness for the Prosecution is a much better mystery. While its most famous incarnation would be the 1957 movie starring Marlene Dietrich and Charles Laughton, this London staging is ingenious. The setting for this twisty courtroom is the Old Bailey so where better to stage it than in London’s County Hall! As you sit in that immersive elegant wooden debating hall surrounding the action, you feel like a juror weighing up the guilt or innocence of the accused. But will you choose correctly!
